Hudson haunts former team as Dodgers crush D'Backs

Stults (1-0), filling in for injured Opening Day starter Hiroki Kuroda (left oblique), scattered four hits, two walks and a run while fanning five in 5 1/3 frames for the Dodgers, who evened their record at 3-3.

Russell Martin and Andre Ethier each drove in two runs for Los Angeles.

Yusmeiro Petit was a replacement for Arizona's ace, Brandon Webb, who was scratched because of stiffness in his shoulder. Petit (0-1) was saddled with the loss after surrendering three runs on three hits and a pair of walks in a five-inning start for the D'Backs, who beat LA, 9-4, in the opener of the three-game set on Friday.

Stephen Drew and Augie Ojeda each had an RBI in defeat.

Petit retired the first 10 batters he faced, but Hudson connected on a first- pitch fastball for a solo shot to put the Dodgers in front in the fourth. The blast rattled Petit, who went on to walk Manny Ramirez and James Loney before allowing a two-run double to Martin for a 3-0 deficit.

While Stults only gave up two hits through five frames, the Dodgers extended their lead with a five-run sixth. Billy Buckner started on the hill for Arizona and promptly loaded the bases.

Ethier followed with a two-run double, Matt Kemp plated a runner with a sacrifice fly and Casey Blake singled in another tally. After Stults struck out, Blake moved up to second on a passed ball and came around to score on Rafael Furcal's single for a commanding 8-0 lead.

In the home half, Drew singled home Chris Young, who hit a one-out double, but that was all the Diamondbacks could muster until the last frame.

Hudson doubled in a pair and scored on a Juan Pierre single to make it a 10- run game in the eighth, and Mark Reynolds scored on Ojeda's sacrifice fly in the home ninth to account for the final score.

Game Notes

In the rubber match on Sunday, LA will go with Randy Wolf on the mound, while Arizona counters with Dan Haren...LA went 6-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

A NFL pointspreads are exactly that, a pre-established point difference between the two sides that will, for all intents and purposes, create a handicap that evens things out, and in doing so, produces comparable wagering activity on both sides of that proposition. So in lieu of a odds figure in which to bet the team to win outright, the Bears might be a three-point favorite over the New York Giants, and a 17-point favorite over the also-ran. Now that the team that is the underdog can "get" points, there can be equal action on both sides.

In sportsbooks, this is usually done with efficiency by charging the losing bettors 10% extra - in effect, bettors are laying 11/10 on those games. So they are actually betting $110 to win $100. If they lose, they pay the "vig." If they win, they simply collect.
